An integrated model connecting safety, documentation, advocacy, and funding into a line of defense.
Our four pillars provide a connected framework of support, from immediate safety to long-term resilience., from the moment of threat to long-term resilience. Each pillar builds on the last, forming an integrated model where safety enables documentation, documentation enables advocacy, and advocacy helps build the support and resources that sustain the work.
"Safety is the foundation of everything we do at WORDS". Before a woman can document, advocate, or lead, she must be safe. This pillar covers digital safety training, risk mitigation, and secure communication infrastructure.
Through our fellowship programme (2025), WORDS trained 15 Afghan women journalists and human rights defenders across multiple provinces of Afghanistan in digital security.
When women are safe, they can document what they witness. This pillar covers human rights documentation methodology training, case collection, verification, and the production of evidence-based reports.
WORDS trains women to transform what they see every day into verified, structured evidence, submitted to UN treaty bodies.
We believe that evidence without a voice creates no change. This pillar is about ensuring that documented violations reach the institutions and decision-makers with the power to act.
WORDS engages with other human rights organizations, produces public statements, hosts webinars and panels, and amplifies the voices of women who cannot speak publicly themselves.
In many contexts of repression, women-led organizations cannot legally register under their own name or leadership because of their gender, yet the work must still continue. WORDS acts as the registered intermediary between international donors and these women-led groups, receiving funding on their behalf and channeling it directly to the organizations doing the work on the ground. WORDS also receives funds and redistributes them to smaller organizations operating in countries under repression, extending resources to where larger institutions cannot reach directly.
The WORDS Solidarity Fund distributes grants directly to those who need them including women-led organizations that cannot register under their own name like Afghanistan and beyond, reaching communities and individuals that larger institutions cannot access directly.
Governments, foundations, media houses, and individuals each have a role. Join the network through funding, platforms, legal capacity, or diplomatic action.
