Our Work

What We Do

Six interconnected areas of programming, each designed to respond to the realities women face under repression.

Six interconnected areas of work.

Each area is designed to respond to the realities women face under repression. Together, they form a connected chain of support, from the moment of threat to long-term resilience.

Capacity Building

We design and implement leadership, advocacy, and professional development programs for women journalists and human rights defenders. Our trainings focus on practical skills, resilience, strategic communication, and effective civic engagement.

Digital and Physical Safety

Recognizing the risks women face, particularly in conflict and repressive contexts, WORDS supports digital security awareness, risk mitigation strategies, and protective mechanisms that enhance personal and professional safety.

Mental and Psychosocial Support

Prolonged exposure to violence, threats, and displacement has severe psychological consequences. WORDS integrates psychosocial awareness and peer-support frameworks into its programming to strengthen resilience and well-being.

Advocacy, Research, & More

WORDS documents violations against women journalists and human rights defenders and conducts research to inform international stakeholders. Through evidence-based reporting, we contribute to accountability efforts and policy discussions on press freedom and women's rights.
